Strategy Moves $297M in Bitcoin, but Arkham Says It Wasn’t a Sale

Strategy triggered a fresh round of Bitcoin sale speculation after more than 3,568 BTC worth roughly $297 million moved out of wallets linked to Michael Saylor’s company within nine hours. The transfers were first flagged by Lookonchain , which asked whether Strategy was “dumping BTC again” or simply moving funds between wallets. That distinction matters more than usual because Strategy has already become a more active seller this year after years of almost one-way accumulation. The scare did not last long. Arkham analyst Emmett Gallic later said the transactions were internal transfers within Fidelity’s custody infrastructure, not sales or transfers to an outside counterparty. According to the analysis, Fidelity treats client Bitcoin as fungible within its custody system and can shift assets between internal addresses as needed. Why the Transfer Looked More Important Than It Was Large outbound wallet movements are often interpreted as potential selling pressure, especially when the sender is one of the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holders. Strategy has also given investors more reason to watch those movements closely. The company sold 6,916 BTC over the summer before later rebuilding part of that position, marking a major change from the accumulation-only strategy that defined much of Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin campaign. Earlier this year, Strategy also completed its first disclosed Bitcoin sale since 2022 , selling 32 BTC as part of its evolving capital-management strategy. That history made Tuesday’s $297 million movement immediately more sensitive. Strategy Is Still Adding Bitcoin The latest official filing points in the opposite direction from a major disposal. Strategy disclosed that it purchased another 1,665 BTC for $142.7 million between Sept. 21 and Sept. 27 at an average price of $85,681. That brought its holdings to 847,666 BTC, acquired for roughly $63.95 billion at an average cost of $75,437 per coin. The company’s capital strategy has nevertheless become more flexible. Saylor has previously said Strategy could sell small amounts of Bitcoin while remaining a net accumulator over time.
