MicroStrategy buys over 12K bitcoins for $347M in cash

Michael Saylor's MicroStrategy ( NASDAQ: MSTR ) acquired 12,333 bitcoins ( BTC-USD ) for $347M in cash between April 29 and June 27, the company disclosed in an SEC filing Wednesday. It now holds 152,333 bitcoins ( BTC-USD ), which were purchased at an aggregate purchase price of around $4.52B and an average purchase price of ~$29,668 per BTC, inclusive of fees and expenses. At current prices, MSTR's bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) stash is worth $4.64B, making it one of the largest HODLers of the digital token. Also, as of June 27, the company had sold $333.7M of its shares, in connection with a previously disclosed shares sale agreement. During the first quarter, it booked an $18.9M write down on its bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) holdings, easing from the $197.6M logged in the prior quarter, thanks to price appreciation. MSTR advanced 2% in late morning trading, even as BTC slipped 1.3% to $30.4K.
